American importers are buying goods from China in anticipation of Trump's arrival.

After Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections, importing companies began to increase their purchases in China. This was due to the fact that Trump threatens to impose tariffs on Chinese products ranging from 10% to 60%. During the last quarter of last year, American companies tried to stockpile goods from China in advance of the expected introduction of tariffs. As a result, there was a significant increase in imports of goods from China to the US. In December, exports from China to the US reached a record level ($48.8 billion, which is 4.9% higher than the previous year).
Economists predict that Trump may impose tariffs on finished products, so importers are rushing to bring in as many consumer goods from China as possible to avoid high rates. According to Descartes Systems Group, approximately 451 thousand containers of Chinese goods were delivered in December, which is 14.5% more than a year ago. By the end of 2024, imports from China to the US are expected to increase by 15% compared to the previous year.
Thus, importing companies increased their purchases from China due to the threat of tariffs on Chinese products from President Trump. This led to a significant rise in the import of goods from China to the US, as well as an increase in supplies from other countries.
