Prices for school supplies: how much it costs to prepare a child for school.


Ukrainians were told how much it costs to prepare a child for school in 2024.
As the new school year approaches, parents all over Ukraine start preparing their children for school. For many, this is quite a "painful" issue, as preparations are not cheap. Especially considering that this year, prices for school supplies have significantly increased.
According to OLX analysts, the average prices for basic school supplies have increased by 14% over the past year. Attention was drawn to the fact that although the price increase is not as noticeable this year, in 2023 the cost of school goods increased by as much as 30%.
Based on observations from Prom.ua, compared to July of last year, the average prices for school supplies have changed as follows:
- drawing albums: +40% - up to 280 UAH;
- pencil cases-organizers: +56% - up to 390 UAH;
- stationery sets: -22% to 210 UAH;
- folders for notebooks: -25% to 150 UAH.
The average cost of basic items is set at the following level:
- school backpack with orthopedic back: 999 UAH;
- bag for sports uniforms and shoes: 200 UAH;
- watercolor paints: 250 UAH;
- lunchbox: 179 UAH;
- folder for notebooks: 60 UAH;
- fine: 195 UAH;
- colored pencils: 108 UAH;
- notebooks (20 pieces): 200 UAH;
- stationery set: 210 UAH.
So, in total, the basic cost of preparing a child for school will be on average 2,500 UAH. However, note that this is only basic school supplies, and many will still need new clothes, etc.
