Pro-Russian cultural center in Berlin costs Germany €70,000 per year.

Even in light of the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and EU sanctions, the German authorities continue to pay land tax for the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin. In 2024, the amount of tax on the land where this center is located was about €70,000.
The German Foreign Office explained that the government of the country owns the plot on Friedrichstrasse in Berlin and is therefore obliged to pay land tax according to legal obligations. The agreement also provides for payment for the Goethe-Institut in Moscow.
The Foreign Office explains: 'According to the bilateral agreement from 2013, we are obliged to pay land tax for the plot where cultural institutions are located.'
Despite this, a member of the 'Alliance 90/The Greens' party calls for the closure of the Russian House in Berlin and the cessation of funding from German funds, while some activist groups note the center as a platform for Russian propaganda.
Despite the tense relations between Russia and Ukraine, the German authorities continue to pay land tax for the Russian House in Berlin, as they have legal obligations to do so. This situation provokes various opinions and discussions in political and public circles, especially regarding the center's activities as a platform for Russian propaganda.
