Russian Forces Using Motorcycles on the Frontline
Due to a shortage of armored vehicles and the successful use of Ukrainian drones, the Russian army has started using motorcycles in combat operations. According to Business Insider, this move may be a response to the increasing use of Ukrainian drones.
Russian motorcyclists are currently attacking in columns of eight motorcycles supported by electronic warfare (EW) systems. Russian troops transport EW systems at the front, center, and rear of the column to protect the motorcycles from drone strikes.
According to the American Institute for the Study of War, the use of motorcycles is a response to the losses of armored vehicles from Ukrainian drones. Motorcycles are fast and maneuverable, allowing for quick actions and avoiding drone attacks.
However, leading analysts note that this strategy may impact the adaptability of Russian forces. Risks include difficulties in coordination and vulnerability to new threats on the battlefield.
The Russian Ministry of Defense plans to formalize the use of motorcycles in combat operations as an official tactic. This new strategy could be utilized in other conflicts and deployed across all brigades in various regions.
