Former US President Donald Trump claimed that US Vice President Kamala Harris allegedly met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in early 2022 to prevent a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The false statement was made by the Republican during a rally in North Carolina, reports CNN.
"Remember when Biden sent Kamala to Europe to stop the war in Ukraine. She met with Putin, and then three days later he attacked. How did she handle it? Do you think she did her job well?",said Trump.
CNN cites a statement by Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov that there was no contact between the Kremlin leader and Harris. Journalists add that in early 2022, the Biden administration was trying to contain Russia's full-scale invasion. When the Vice President was heading to Germany for the Munich Security Conference, the US President had already stated that Putin had decided to attack Ukraine.
"Trump's statement is false. Harris never met with Putin. In fact, she met with US allies, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, at the Munich Security Conference a few days before Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Putin was not at the conference", the CNN journalists note.
