The number of cases concerning single parents has increased by 67 times since the beginning of the full-scale war.

According to 'Opendatabot', from January to May 2022, the number of cases for establishing the fact of independent upbringing and care of minor children by parents increased by 67 times. If at the beginning of the year there were only 6 such cases, by 2025 this figure has increased to 400.

Overall, in 2022 only 37 men decided to officially establish the fact of independent upbringing of a minor child. However, during the first year of the war, their number increased 5 times - to 180. In 2024 the courts addressed 625 cases of this type, and this year the number of registered court cases reached 400, which is 3.1 times more than in 2024.

In total, since the beginning of the war, at least 1255 cases of establishing the fact of independent upbringing of minor children have been found in the court register.

The status of a father who independently raises a child provides the opportunity to leave the country, but this opportunity is limited for men aged 18 to 60.

It is noted that a father is considered 'single' if he is not married and independently raises and supports a child without the mother's participation. If the mother does not participate in the child's life, the father may obtain the status of a single father; another situation arises if the mother has died, been declared missing or refused to take the child from the maternity hospital.

The number of court cases regarding the establishment of independent upbringing of children by parents is rapidly increasing, especially in relation to the war. Men are deciding to take responsibility for children, even if the mother does not participate in their upbringing. This can have significant legal implications but allows parents to provide their children with better living conditions in times of instability.
