Ukrainians may be deprived of their only housing: an expert explained the dangers of the household law.

In an interview with Yuriy Romanenko, housing expert Oleg Popenko expressed his alarming opinion about the household law that came into force in 2022. According to him, this law may lead to the eviction of up to two-thirds of the Ukrainian population from their homes. The main goal of the law is to simplify the procedure for seizing property from debtors for utility services.
According to the expert, the new law establishes collective responsibility, which means that property can be seized even from those who only bear a fraction of the joint debts. This may particularly affect people with close ties to relatives, who can easily fall into this legislative trap.
Oleg Popenko also warned of the risks for entrepreneurs, who may now be held accountable as households for violations of the legislation. The procedure for seizing housing, which has been simplified by the new law, may lead to mass cases of property confiscation from individuals. The expert called to avoid such legislative steps, as they may have a very negative impact on Ukrainian society.
The housing expert emphasized the serious threats that the new household law poses to Ukrainians. In particular, he warned about the possible eviction of two-thirds of the population due to the simplified procedure for seizing property from debtors for utility services. Furthermore, the law's enactment may create problems for shared property owners and entrepreneurs who risk being blamed for legal violations. Such decisions may lead to catastrophic consequences for Ukrainian society.
