Available housing is unavailable: what percentage of Ukrainians can afford new real estate.

Many Ukrainians will not be able to independently find new housing if they lose it. This follows from a survey conducted by Cedos in collaboration with the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology in September-October 2024.
According to the survey results, the housing situation among the population of Ukraine is alarming. Only 2% of people can afford to buy new housing, while 15% can rent an apartment or house. 42% of respondents have no opportunity to secure themselves with new housing and see no way out of this situation. About 25% of respondents noted that in the event of losing their housing, they could temporarily live with relatives or friends.
The research also showed that 79% of Ukrainians live in their own housing, while 14% rent.
Since the start of the war, more and more people have started living in rented housing. For example, 42% of respondents spend more than a third of their income on housing. This forces them to save money on food and clothing. Among people aged 60+, 65% are forced to economize on food. Even homeowners have to tighten their belts to pay for utilities and other expenses.
Earlier, it was reported how to safely rent an apartment in Poland.
